Passenger Charged Over Cocaine After Driver Consents To Search: Northfield Crimes

NORTHFIELD, IL — The following information comes from the Northfield Police Department as a record of police activity and incidents reported to police. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced, and an arrest is not an indication of guilt. Everyone named below is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY

Police responded to a painting company in the 1700 block of Harding Road on July 3 at 8:30 a.m. for a report of a burglary. Someone had entered the building between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on July 1, police said. The water was turned on and the sinks had been clogged, flooding bathrooms, hallways and kitchens. An investigation continues.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

At 7 a.m. on July 4, a resident in the 600 block of Briar lane reported someone had ransacked their vehicle and stolen the remote control to their garage door.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

DRUG PARAPHERNALIA

Police smelled burnt marijuana during a traffic stop shortly after 4 p.m. on July 4. Police found a black glass pipe and cited passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Lake Zurich, for possession of drug paraphernalia.

POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Armando Honorato Roman, 37, of the 1600 block of Rice Street in Waukegan, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on July 6.

Police made a traffic stop on Alice Place near Willow Road. During the stop, the officer noticed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Then police found two bags of a white powdery substance near the passenger seat after the driver gave consent to search the vehicle.

Roman, the passenger, was charged with felony unlawful possession of controlled substance in connection with more than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine.

The driver, a 27-year-old Waukegan man, was cited for no front license plate and driving without insurance. His court date has been scheduled for Aug. 3.

THEFT

Bryon H. Brand, 18, of the 900 block of Private Road in Winnetka, was charged with theft on July 7. Northfield police said a resident on Colonial Lane reported the theft of a bicycle on June 4, and Brand was found to be in possession of the bicycle on June 12. His court date has been set for Aug. 1.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS

A 16-year-old Glenview boy was cited for criminal trespass to a residence, possession of tobacco by a minor and obedience to police officers on July 8 at 4:51 p.m. after police said he exited a residence on Colonial Lane, smoked a cigarette in front of police and refused to immediately leave when police asked him to come out.
