Rio Olympics 2016: When to Watch the North Shore Athletes Compete

As the pomp and spectacle of the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro fade into the night Friday, the athletes—including a sizable contingent with North Shore ties—take center stage.

Here's a look at the local Olympians who are competing and when:

Swimming

Conor Dwyer, Winnetka

Men's 400-meter freestyle

• Heats: 11:48 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. Dwyer is scheduled to compete in Heat 7, which starts at 12:24 p.m.
• Final: 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6

Men's 200-meter freestyle

• Heats: 11:19 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7. Dwyer is scheduled to compete in Heat 6, which starts at 11:44 a.m.
• Semifinal 1: 8:11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7
• Semifinal 2: 8:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7

Men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay

• Heats: 12:17 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9. The U.S. team competes in Heat 1.
• Final: 9:38 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9

Olivia Smoligia, Glenview

Women's 100-meter backstroke

• Heats: 11:02 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7. Smoliga competes in Heat 4, which starts at 11:11 a.m.
• Semifinal 1: 9:36 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7
• Semifinal 2: 9:44 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7
• Final: 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8

Rhythmic Gymnastics

U.S. Team: Monica Rokhman, Kiana Eide, Alisa Kano, Natalie McGiffert and Kristen Shaldybin (Jenny Rohkman, Monica's identical twin sister, is an alternate)

Women's Individual All-Around

• Qualification: 8:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19
• Final: 1:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20

Women's Team All-Around

• Qualification: 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20
• Final: 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
