Waukegan Man Who Fled Police Had Over 30 Grams Of Weed: Blotters
Cyclist struck by hit-and-run driver; fraudster deposits $155,000 in resident's account: North Shore blotters for the week of July 23–29
GLENCOE, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS
HIT AND RUN
A driver struck a bicyclist around 10:15 a.m. on July 24 in the intersection of Green Bay Road and Park Avenue before fleeing the scene. The cyclist was uninjured, and the driver was described as a blonde-haired woman behind the wheel of a Jeep Wrangler.
IDENTITY THEFT/WIRE FRAUD

- Someone tried to use the identity of a South Avenue resident to buy a car over the internet in Tennessee. Police learned on the evening of July 24 that the sale had been canceled by the auto company after contacting the resident and learning the purchase had not been authorized.
- A thief tried and failed to use the identity of an Elder Court resident to buy $2,400 worth of merchandise at a Nordstroms and open up a Best Buy account, police were told on the evening of July 25.
- A Madison Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of July 30 that someone had deposited nearly $155,000 into their Wells Fargo bank account as part of a fraudulent wire transfer.
CAR BURGLARIES
- A burglar stole a $1,500 watch from inside an unlocked Honda minivan in the 500 block of Dundee Road at some point prior to 5 p.m. on July 26.
- Someone burglarized an unlocked Audi sedan in the 500 block of Jackson Road at some point prior to 9 a.m. on July 29.
VANDALISM
Someone scratched writing onto a gas pump and a mirror in a bathroom in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue at some point prior to 7 a.m. on July 26.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a 2018 Land Rover that had been left parked in the 500 block of Jackson Avenue with its keys left inside, police were told on the morning of July 29. It was recovered in Chicago later that day.
ATTEMPTED HOME BURGLARY
An intruder tried and failed to break into a home in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue at some point prior to 8 a.m. on July 30.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 22-year-old Kenosha woman was arrested around 2:45 a.m. on July 26 in the area of Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway and charged with driving with a suspended license and a cancelled registration. She was also issued citations for driving without insurance or proper lights.
John P. Williams, 19, of the 2400 block of McAree Road, Waukegan, was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on July 27 in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road and charged with resisting police and misdemeanor possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Police said he exited he car during a traffic stop and then got back in and fled. He was also issued citations for improper display of a license plate, no insurance and not having a driver's license on his person.
A 17-year-old Chicago boy was arrested around 5:30 a.m. on July 30 in the 700 block of Bluff Street after police said he stole a Trek bicycle.

NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
SUSPICIOUS TRASH
A resident in the 2100 block of Old Willow Road reported on the morning of July 22 that someone had been placing a large amount of trash in their trash cans in recent weeks.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 53-year-old Wilmette woman was arrested around 5:30 p.m. on July 23 in the area of Willow Road and the Edens Expressway and charged with driving with a suspended license. She was also issued citations for expired registration and uninsured motor vehicle.
A 28-year-old Streamwood woman was arrested around 5 p.m. on July 25 in the area of Willow and Hibbard roads and charged with driving with a suspended license. She was also issued a citation for expired registration.
WILMETTE
INCIDENTS
BURGLARY ATTEMPT/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Between July 17 and July 19, someone tried to break into the snack shack at the Canal Shores golf course in the 200 block of Maple Avenue, damaging several planters around the building, police were told.
- An employee of Corner Bakery, 3232 Lake Ave., reported that someone damaged a window pane on the front of the business between 8 p.m. on July 19 and 6 a.m. on July 20.
SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., reported that a man with a mustache, red shirt, black shorts and a red backpack came into the store around 7:35 p.m. on July 21, filled the bag with merchandise and walked out of the store, leaving in an older white sedan.
STOLEN BICYCLE
Someone stole a bicycle between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on July 24 after it had been left unlocked outside a grocery store in the 400 block of Green Bay Road.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An officer reported finding someone damaged a window sometime between about 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 26 on the north side of the former Fell Building, 511 Lincoln Ave. The building is currently owned by the developer of the planned One Winnetka project and the subject of a lawsuit involving the city. The amount of damage or what caused it were unknown as of five days after the incident was reported.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 21-year-old Hayworth man was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on July 24 in the 1000 block of Sheridan Road and charged with speeding 26 to 34 mph above the limit and issued a citation for improper lane usage.
