Suspected Shoplifter Banned From Grocery Store: Blotters
Senior citizen issued battery citation; Over $8,000 in unauthorized charges: Glencoe, Northfield, Winnetka blotters, Jan. 17 to Jan. 23

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

HOME BURGLARIES
- Someone broke into a home in the 200 block of Hibbard Road after damaging the front door between 7 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 14. Nothing appeared to be missing at the time of the report. Repair costs were estimated at $100.
- A resident in the 100 block of Apple Tree Road reported that someone had gotten into their home through an unlocked door between 3:30 and 5 p.m. on Jan. 14. Nothing was listed as stolen at the time of the report.
IDENTITY THEFTS

- A Bryant Avenue resident reported on Jan. 16 that someone had used their identity to open up an unauthorized Comcast account on Jan. 4 for a loss of $556.
- On Jan. 17, a resident came into the Winnetka Police Department around 9 a.m. to report that someone had used their identity to open up an unauthorized AT&T account and try to open up a Walmart credit card account. The reported loss was more than $3,600.
ARRESTS
Judith N. Meikle, 66, of the 400 block of Winnetka Avenue, Winnetka, was cited for battery around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 after police were called to her home for a report of a battery that had just taken place.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 300 block of Park Avenue reported around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 that someone stole their laptop.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Madison Avenue resident reported around 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 19 that someone had used their identity to make an unauthorized charge on their Macy's account. The resident obtained a new card, which was also used by a thief. Nearly $1,400 in unauthorized charges were accrued.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Greenleaf Avenue resident reported around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 that someone had used their credit card to rack up nearly $8,700 in unauthorized charges, which were later reversed by the card issuer.
ARRESTS
An 18-year-old Chicago man was issued a ticket for soliciting without a permit around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 in the 300 block of Park Avenue.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
HOME BURGLARY
Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Old Farm Road around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 for a report of a residential burglary.
RETAIL THEFT
Staff at the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, reported around 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 16 that they had detained a suspected shoplifter in the store. Management told police they did not wish to press charges but asked police to warn the person not to return.
BAD CHECK
A Meadowood Lane resident reported on the evening of Jan. 18 that someone had given them a fraudulent check as payment for an item sold on eBay.
ARRESTS
Shante A. Marin, 35, of the 4400 block of West Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, was cited for damage to village property around 5:15 a.m. on Jan. 18 after kicking over a desk at the Northfield Police Department while being processed on a separate arrest by Illinois State Police.
