Virus Scam, Shoe Sale Scuffle, Teen Flees: Glencoe Crime Reports

Glencoe Police Blotter: Aug. 2 - Aug. 16

GLENCOE, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe Department of Public Safety as a record of incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

It was reported on Aug. 3 at 8:34 a.m. that someone stole a package from the front porch of a resident in the 900 block of Oak Drive.

On Aug. 4 at 3:54 p.m., police were told someone had used the airline advantage account of a resident in the 800 block of Oak Drive to buy plane tickets using the resident's miles.

THEFT

On Aug. 7 at 12:54 p.m., police were told that someone stole two license plate registration stickers from the 1600 block of Frontage Road.

IDENTITY THEFT

On Aug. 11 at 4:11 p.m., it was reported that someone had opened up several credit cards using the identity of a resident in the 300 block of Palos Road and accrued unpaid balances of more than $10,000.

STOLEN AUTO

On Aug. 12 at 8:03 a.m. a resident in the 100 block of Green Bay Road reported that she had loaned her vehicle to her son and he refused to return it to her. Police said she did not press charges.

IDENTITY THEFT

On Aug. 12 at 11:53 a.m., police were told that someone called up a resident of the 900 block of Forestway Drive and told him that he had a computer virus. The man gave the caller remote access to his computer, and later he found that several unauthorized credit cards had been opened in his name.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Aug. 13, police learned someone tried to break into a home in the 500 block of Greenleaf Avenue and damaged a screen in the process. The burglar was unable to make entry, police said.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Police said multiple juveniles were seen climbing onto the roof of a school in the 200 block of Linden Avenue around 11 a.m. on Aug. 13 but fled before police arrived.

FORGERY

On Aug. 14 at 3:28 p.m., someone gained access to a line of credit of a resident in the 300 block of Jackson Avenue and wrote several checked valued over $10,000 against the account.

BATTERY

On Aug. 15 at 7:38 p.m., police were told that there had been a scuffle over shoes. A resident of the 300 block of Adams Avenue said a suspect had agreed to sell shoes through a sales app. The suspect came to the resident's home to complete the transaction, but the price was changed, police were told. The resident refused to pay and there was a physical altercation, but the resident did not wish to press charges, police said.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

ALCOHOL

An 18-year-old Northbrook man was cited for consuming alcohol as a minor after police found him stumbling along the walkway in the 300 block of Randolph Street shortly before midnight on Aug. 2. Police said he jumped in the bushes in an attempt to hide after he saw the patrol vehicle.

CANNABIS

A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested Aug. 7 at 2:54 a.m. near the intersection of Forestway Drive and Elder Road and accused of possessing cannabis, drug paraphernalia and an uninsured motor vehicle.

TRAFFIC/CANNABIS

A 17-year-old Evanston resident was arrested Aug. 16 at 12:35 a.m. in the 100 block of Linden Avenue and accused of disobeying a traffic control signal, violating night time driving restrictions of a graduated driver's license, resisting police and possessing cannabis. Police said an officer turned around and a car "attempted to hide on a side street, lights off and then the occupants fled the vehicle." The 17-year-old driver was taken into custody.
