Gas prices in Illinois are among the most expensive in the U.S., according to AAA. On Thursday, the average price for a regular gallon of gas was $4.66.

In the Chicago metro area, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was even higher, at $4.87. According to AAA, the highest recorded average price for regular gas in the metro area was $5.91.

The Chicagoland's gas prices are well over the national average, which was $4.30 on Thursday.

The cheapest average price in Illinois for a gallon of regular gas is found in the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island area, according to AAA, with a price of $4.41.
