Winnetka is 2nd Richest Town in U.S.: Business Insider

Business Insider’s most recent list of America’s Best Suburbs in America includes Winnetka.

The magazine released the results of its 2015 study in the “50 Best Suburbs in America,” listing Winnetka at No. 40. The study examined data on 2,754 municipalities throughout the nation that have populations between 5,000 and 100,000 and are within 40 kilometers of a major metropolitan city. Average commute times, median household income, poverty and crime rates also factored in, as did schools and housing affordability. See the full methodology here.

Winnetka scored high on the income portion of the study, ranking as the second “richest town” in the country, trailing only Scarsdale, New York in that category.

“It’s not surprising to discover that the median household income is $211,250 and 88% of residents have at least a bachelor’s degree, which is more than three times the national rate.”

Nearby Deerfield was the only Chicago suburb to be ranked higher that Winnetka on the suburb list, coming in at No. 38. Another Illinois city, Hinsdale, also made the list.
