Hubbard Woods students get a comprehensive bake sale experience at the Floured Apron kitchen.

WINNETKA, IL — Fifty two 3rd grade students from Hubbard Woods cooked up every step of a bake sale — from cooking, to marketing, to packaging to sales — while also participating in a community service project during a recent field trip to The Floured Apron.
Students were divided into teams and alternated baking in the kitchen, designing marketing materials, and decorating aprons and chef hats. After baking together, students' used their creativity to make labels and packaged their cookies.

Throughout the experience, students learned about the importance of sales and marketing materials. The students then hosted a bake sale with the cookies, which also included a cookbook containing recipes collected by the students. All proceeds from the event benefited The Floured Apron.
The Floured Apron is a Winnetka nonprofit job training program for women founded by a parent at the school. It was founded by Emily Boling, a Hubbard Woods parent. The organization teaches women job skills to work in the culinary industry and helps out with job placement for graduates of its 10-week program.
