Winnetka Caucus Council Starts Candidate Search for Board Seats

The village has open spots on the library and parks boards, as well as the Village Council.

The following press release is from the Winnetka Caucus Council:

The Winnetka Caucus Council has started its annual solicitation of candidates to serve on the Village Boards. Three seats need to be filled on each of the Library, Parks and District 36 School Boards and on the Village Council. Candidates are also sought for the position of Village President.

All Winnetka residents are encouraged to nominate themselves or neighbors whom they think would make good members of any particular board. Information about each board and its current members can be found on their respective websites. Further information can be obtained from the Chairpersons of the various Caucus Council committees responsible for finding candidates:

  • Bob Leonard (Library)
  • Jane Saccaro (Parks)
  • Erica Chesney (Schools) and Anne Wilder (Village)

Contact information for each of them is on the Caucus Council website: winnetkacaucus.org

Anyone interested in serving should provide contact information at the link on the Caucus website or by contacting the appropriate Committee chair. All persons indicating an interest in serving will be sent a questionnaire concerning their background and interests. All persons completing the questionnaire will be interviewed by the appropriate Committee, whose members will then recommend a slate of candidates to the entire Caucus Council. Candidates approved by the Caucus Council will be presented to all residents attending the Town Meeting on November 16. Candidates elected at the Town Meeting will then be on the April 2017 ballot for final election to the various boards.

Wally Greenough, Chair of the 2016 Caucus Council, said, “We are looking for residents willing to volunteer their time and experience to help manage the future of our town. The Council tries to identify people who are familiar with the issues facing a particular board but who will discuss them openly, constructively and without an axe to grind.”

The Rules of the Caucus Council provide that incumbents should not be favored over newcomers in the selection process, and current members of the Caucus Council cannot be considered at all. “We want to encourage new ideas from fresh faces,” Greenough explained. “Our goal is to be transparent and non-partisan.”

Residents who want to get involved in Village government without serving on a board are encouraged to join the Caucus Council. Information is available on the Council website.
