Winnetka Obituary: Christine Czarkowski nee Rakoczy, 92

Christine Czarkowski nee Rakoczy, age 92, passed away on March 25, 2015 at home in Winnetka. Born on June 4, 1922 in Lodz, Poland.

Christine was taken from Lodz to Germany during the war to work at a TB sanatorium. After the Allied liberation, she worked for UNRRA, later part of the United Nations.There she met her late husband of 52 years, Casimir. Together they came to the United States in 1951 and started their lives again.

A Polish Girl Scout since 1935, she was very active in the Polish
Scouting Organization in Chicago.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Speidel and Isabelle Goossen,
her grandchildren, Richard Speidel, Victoria Sorensen, Elisabeth Goossen and Nicholas Goossen and her great granddaughter, Cecilia Speidel.

Visitation Sunday March 29, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Donnellan
Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie, IL 60077. Funeral Mass Monday March 30, 12:00 noon at Sacred Heart Church 1077 Tower Rd. Winnetka, IL 60093. Interment Maryhill Cemetery.
