Winnetka Sets Storm Branch Pickup After Monday Damage

WINNETKA, IL — Winnetka will begin one full pass through the village to collect downed branches after the strong storms that hit the community Monday.

The collection is scheduled to start Wednesday, July 29, and residents are asked to place debris on the parkway at the curb by 7 a.m. that day to ensure pickup.

According to the village, the pass will begin in the northwest area of the community and continue until complete. The village also said debris on private property will not be collected, and crews will not pick up debris that is blocked by a vehicle or otherwise inaccessible from the street.

Village President Robert H. Dearborn addressed the storm damage in a statement released by the village.

“Yesterday’s storms will likely be memorable for many Winnetkans and those in nearby communities, as power outages, flooding, and tree damage were notable,” Dearborn said. “Our crews will continue the cleanup efforts in Winnetka throughout the week.”

The village said Winnetka operates its own power utility and that the storm caused outages that were mainly tree-related. According to Dearborn, impacted residents had their power restored as quickly as possible, with crews responding immediately to outages. The village said Water & Electric personnel worked until 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to restore electric service.

“Northfield proactively offered their assistance on Monday afternoon upon realizing that Winnetka was severely impacted by the storms. We are most appreciative,” Dearborn said.
