150 Trees Planted at Jubilee Point Park on Arbor Day

Grant money and a donation from Davey Tree Company were used to purchase the plants and mulch.

Woodridge Park District staff and volunteers from Jefferson Junior High School Staff and Student Council and Davey Tree Expert Company planted 150 native trees at Jubilee Point Park on Arbor Day, Friday, April 26. Earlier this year, the Park District applied for and was awarded two grants to offset prioritized natural area enhancement work at Jubilee Point Park. The $3,000 Trees Forever and $2,000 Illinois Park District Habitat Improvement grants were used to purchase the trees for the park and Davey Tree donated mulch for the planting event. The new trees will help improve the biodiversity of the natural areas by providing improved flora habitat and food sources for native wildlife in accordance with the goals recommended in the Jubilee Point Park Natural Area Improvement Plan. Please note, with the increased cicada activity expected this spring and summer, volunteers and staff will continue to cover these young trees with netting to protect them from possible negative impacts associated with the insects.
