Charity Started by Downers Grove Resident Plans to Give $40,000 Each Year

The Chicago chapter of 100+ Who Care awarded its first donation to Wings.

The idea behind 100+ Who Care is to raise $10,000 in 90 minutes four times a year without volunteering, planning events or selling raffle tickets.

The Chicago chapter of the charity has already used “collective giving” to award its first check to Wings, according to the organization’s website. Wings is a non profit that provides housing, integrated services, education and advocacy to end domestic violence.

Downers Grove resident Jay Sebben, who founded the 100+ Who Care Chicago chapter, told Suburban Life he believes the chapter will grow with every meeting they hold.

The quarterly meetings involve a gathering of members who each bring a blank check for $100, according to the 100+ Who Care website. Members can submit the names of local charities worthy of the donation, and three submissions are chosen randomly. A discussion is held, and a vote is taken to determine the winning charity. Checks are collected, and the donation is given to the winning charity the following week

The next meeting will take place Aug. 13 at the showroom of Knoll Modern Furniture.

“When you donate $100 to a charity, you may wonder if you’re making a difference. But when 100 people donate $100 at the same time, they raise $10,000 for a worthy cause. That’s real impact. And it only takes an hour,” the website states.
