Community Development Block Grants Will Pay to Resurface Streets, Fund CRC
The Woodridge village board voted to move forward with the two grants at Thursday's board meeting.

The Woodridge village board voted Thursday to approve two subgrantee agreements to move forward with community development grants received from DuPage County.
The two community development block grants will fund the operation of the as well as street resurfacing projects in the neighborhood around Janes Avenue.
To receive CDBG funds, the area must meet certain federal income eligibility requirements. The Janes Avenue Neighborhood Strategy area is the only area within Woodridge that meets those requirements, according to village.

The first grant provides $10,375 for the . The money will fund programs at the center.
“The purpose of the activities funded pursuant to this agreement is to provide a safe place for youth to be after school and during the summer months by offering the After School and the Summer Camp program,” the proposed agreement stated.

Quarterly progress reports will be filed to the DuPage County Community Development Commission. The village must spend 50 percent of the grant by Nov. 30 and all of it by March 31, when the grant expires.
Woodridge has received funding in the past from the DuPage County Community Development Commission and Thursday’s agreement will allow that funding to continue in 2012, the agenda for Thursday's meeting stated.
The second grant provides $196,928 for the resurfacing of Birchwood Parkway, Apache Lane, Valley View Lane and Forest Glen Parkway.
The board meeting agenda said village has received such funds since 1993 to finance projects in Woodridge, including the Janes Avenue Neighborhood Strategy Area.
The grant will provide most, but not all, of the funding for those projects. The total cost of resurfacing is $262,570.
