Fewer Residents Feel Safe in Woodridge
The question, "Do you feel safe and secure in your neighborhood?" garnered the most negative response in a decade, according to Woodridge's Community Needs survey.

Fewer residents feel safe in their Woodridge neighborhoods than last year or even a decade ago.
The Woodridge Community Need survey question, "Do you feel safe and secure in your neighborhood?" received its most negative response in at least a decade.
According to the survey, 92.5 percent of residents surveyed said yes; 7.5 percent said no.

In 2010, 96.5 percent of residents surveyed said yes; 3.5 percent said no.
The survey packet provided to Patch only shows data from 2002-2011. In that time, there was a range of 93.7 to 97.2 percent who said they felt safe in their neighborhoods.

The conducts the Community Needs Survey every year and distributed 1,200 surveys to residents this year-- 1,000 to those in single-family homes and 200 in multi-family homes.
Of the 1,200, 374 surveys were returned, a response rate that was 2.2 percentage points higher than last year.
With fewer residents reported they felt safe, the saw higher numbers in certain categories than last year.
Overall satisfaction with the was up over last year, with 95.2 percent reporting "very satisfied (44.6 percent)" or "satisfied (50.6 percent)."
"Adequacy of service" provided by dispatchers and patrol officers were both higher than last year.
Of those surveyed, 94.9 percent rated dispatcher service either "excellent (58 percent)" or "good (36.9 percent)." This response was a nine-year high. While Woodridge started off the year with its own dispatch center, the

Police attitude and behavior was at a nine-year high: 90.4 percent of residents rated it "excellent (58.7 percent)" or "good (31.7)." That topic has ranged from 83 percent in 2005-2006 to 90.5 in 2002.
Response times for both emergency and non-emergency situations were rated slightly lower than last year.
