Former Downers Grove Mayor Announces State Rep Run
Ron Sandack to enter race for 81st House District seat.
Former mayor Ron Sandack officially announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 81st House District of Illinois Wednesday morning outside of the Downers Grove village hall.
Standing on the slightly unkempt lawn of the building he served as mayor in for four years, Sandack, currently a state senator, delivered his opening speech to a small crowd of supporters, flanked by local politicians including State Rep Mike Connelly and Senators Christine Radogno and Kirk Dillard. A handful of area mayors were also in attendance.
Sandack said he chose the village hall as the site to give his speech because local governance was still “in his blood” and he felt Illinois could benefit from operating in a similar manner as Downers Grove did while he was mayor.

In his speech, Sandack highlighted the need to make Illinois job friendly and said his campaign will strive to do more with less, relying heavily on volunteers.
The newly created 81st House District encompasses parts of Downers Grove, Darien, Lisle, Woodridge, Westmont and Naperville. Sandack is running for the republican primary, which is in March. Sandack served as Downers Grove mayor from 2007-2011.
