How To Help Victims Of Apartment Fire In Woodridge

WOODRIDGE, IL — Local organizations have stepped up to collect donations of food, clothing, money and other items to support the 57 residents who were displaced from their homes after a 9-hour fire tore through the Windsor Lakes Apartments in Woodridge Thursday.

In a statement, Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham said, "We know our community always shows up when our neighbors need us most. It is one of the things that makes Woodridge so special. In challenging moments, our community has a way of rising to the occasion..."

West Suburban Community Pantry is accepting donations of food items, gas cards and gift cards at 6809 Hobson Valley Dr. Donations can be made Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donations of personal care items, clothing and blankets can be dropped off at the Windsor Lakes Apartments leasing office, 7499 Woodward Ave. The office will be open to accept donations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The village is also working with Woodridge Neighbors Helping Neighbors to organize an option for monetary donations. It's anticipated that option will be live at the start of this week.

Thursday's fire, which was exacerbated by the presence of natural gas, damaged 41 homes at the Windsor Lakes complex. Three residents and one firefighter were injured in the blaze, but were said to have been taken to a nearby hospital in stable and good conditions.
