Newly Elected Village Trustees Talk Priorities, How They Got Elected

Greg Abbott, Anne Banks and David Pittinger were elected last week to the Village of Woodridge board.

Greg Abbott

What was your reaction to being elected?

I am extremely happy to have a chance to serve in Woodridge. We worked hard. A lot of my friends helped out. I'm glad I could be successful. I was optimistic. I always believed if you worked hard and knocked on doors, you have a good chance of winning a local election.

I'm really looking forward to it. I'm excited. I think we're in a real interesting time for government at every level. It's time to come up with a new business model and how to deliver core services. I want to be a part of that.

What are you looking forward to?

Step one is to learn as much as I can about how Woodridge local government operates. I want to get a good handle on exactly what they're doing and see opportunities to do things a little bit better.

To what do you credit your election success?

Between me and my friends (10-12 people), we covered almost every precinct in Woodridge.

Anne Banks

What was your reaction to being elected? (Banks ran with Mohan Airan, a newcomer to the race. Airan received the least number of votes and was not elected.)

I am excited and honored that I was re-elected again.  It is humbling and I really appreciate the fact that the residents chose to give me another opportunity to serve them.  Dr. Airan is an asset to the community.  I feel he would have been an asset to the Village Board, as well.

What are you looking forward to?

I look forward to continuing to provide the core services to our residents, yet remaining fiscally sound.  There is an ongoing effort on the part of the Board to remain focused on the fundamentals of maintaining a quality community, reducing the residential tax burden, and improving the business community.   This will take collaboration on everyone's part moving forward.  My personal priorities are continuing to promote Woodridge as a community that welcomes diversity, and providing affordable senior housing for our residents who want and need it.

To what do you credit your election success?

A lot of hard work on the part of a lot of wonderful people who believed in me and what I stood for - they got the word out.  Being visible in the community, letting people know who you are, but even more important keeping an open mind on the issues, concerns and views of the people.
