Package Thefts On The Rise In Woodridge: Police

Police offer tips to help thwart dreaded "porch pirates."

WOODRIDGE, IL --- Police in Woodridge are warning residents to be on the lookout after an increase in package thefts this holiday season. The packages are stolen by what is known as porch pirates, thieves who often scout porches for unattended packages or follow package delivery trucks and then take the items after they are left behind.

In a post on Facebook, the Woodridge Police Department shared tips and tricks to help residents thwart pesky porch pirates and keep their holiday gifts safe and sound. Here's what they recommend:

  • Require a signature for delivery
  • Sign up for delivery alerts
  • Ask your neighbor to keep an eye out for your package
  • Install security lighting or cameras
