Six Streets will be Resurfaced with Block Grant
The Woodridge village board will vote Thursday whether to submit an application for $300,375 to fund resurfacing of six streets in the Janes Avenue Neighborhood Strategy area.

Six streets will soon be resurfaced in the Janes Avenue neighborhood if the village of Woodridge receives a community development block grant to do so.
The village board will vote Thursday whether to submit an application to the DuPage Community Development Commission for $300,375 in funds to resurface Catalpa Avenue, Deerfield Avenue, Frontage Road, Jonquil Avenue, Sprucewood Avenue and Walnut Avenue.

The grant will provide most, but not all, of the funding for those projects. The total cost of resurfacing is $400,500. The $100,125 difference would be budgeted in the Motor Fuel Tax Fund.
The village must also vote to send an update to apply for funds for the . The CRC was awarded $10,375 annually for three years, starting in fiscal year 2011. The village must send an update with any changes in operations or participants at the center to receive the money in fiscal year 2012.

To receive CDBG funds, the project area must meet certain federal income eligibility requirements.
The Janes Avenue Neighborhood Strategy area is the only area within Woodridge that meets those requirements, according to village. The area is located south of 75th Street, east of Woodridge Drive and west of I-355.
Quarterly progress reports will be filed to the DuPage County Community Development Commission. The village must spend 50 percent of the grant by Nov. 30 and all of it by March 31, when the grant expires.
The village has received such funds since 1993 to finance projects in Woodridge, including the Janes Avenue Neighborhood Strategy Area.
Past projects funded by community development block grants included the construction of and , streetlights, storm sewer improvements and the renovation of .
