Why Some Woodridge Trustees Got More $$ in FY2010 Than Others

Three village trustees received $1,200 more in stipend than the other three during FY2010, according to village records. We tell you why.

Of Woodridge's six trustees, three received more money from the village than the others in FY2010, according to a Woodridge Patch FOIA request.

Trustees Pamela Beavers, Gina Cunningham-Picek and Joseph Kagann each received a $4,800 stipend during that time period. Anne Banks, Edward McManus and David Pittinger each received a $3,600 stipend.

The $1,200 difference is because of village ordinance 2008-47, in which the village board voted to increase the compensation for trustees. The board approved the ordinance on Oct. 16, 2008. It became effective on May 1, 2009.

State law mandates that an elected official cannot receive an increase in compensation during a current term, according to Peggy Halik, assistant village administrator.

Banks, McManus and Pittinger started their four-year terms in 2007, so they were ineligible for a compensation increase.

The trustees with the higher stipends (Beavers, Cunningham-Picek and Kagann) began their current terms in 2009, after the ordinance went into effect.

Banks and Pittinger were re-elected in 2011 and are now eligible for the increase. McManus chose to not run for re-election and . Abbott is eligible for the higher amount, as well.
