DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin called the accusations “extremely disturbing” because the elderly woman is more than 85 years old.
According to the charges, Rainey gained entry to the woman’s Westmont apartment in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. Rainy then forced the woman on to a bed where he sexually assaulted her.

He allegedly demanded money from the woman, and when she told him she had little money in her home, Rainey forced the woman to drive to an ATM by gunpoint.
After he obtained the money, he then ordered the woman to drive to a nearby apartment complex. Rainey got out of the woman’s vehicle and walked away, the State’s Attorney’s office said in a news advisory.
The woman drove home and called 911, where authorities transported her to nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
An investigation overseen by Westmont Police, with assistance from Woodridge Police and the DuPage County Crime Lab, led them to Rainey, who was already in jail on an unrelated charge.
“The Westmont Police Department has worked very hard to bring a quick resolution to this case to reassure our residents that they live in a safe community,” Westmont Police Chief Thomas Mulhearn said. “Hopefully these charges will bring justice and some closure to the victim. As the case progresses, we will continue to work closely with the State’s Attorney’s Office to secure a conviction on these charges.”
Rainey’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 10 in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
