1 Pedestrian Dead, Another Hurt In Hit-And-Run In Yorkville: Police

YORKVILLE, IL — One pedestrian was killed and a second was injured in a hit-and-run crash in a parking lot on Sunday in Yorkville, police said.

Police identified the pedestrian who was killed only as a 23-year-old man.

Officials described the crash as "intentional," according to ABC7 and CBS Chicago.

According to police, officers responded to a parking lot in the 300 block of East Veterans Parkway just before 5:15 p.m. for a reported hit-and-run involving pedestrians. Several news outlets reported that the incident happened near Planet Fitness.

Officers found two people who had been struck by a vehicle that had then fled, police said. Both pedestrians were taken to an area hospital with significant injuries.

By late Sunday night, Yorkville police said they had been notified that one of the victims, the 23-year-old man, had been pronounced dead. The second victim, also an adult, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

A vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the crash was found a short time after the incident in Oswego, officials said.

"All known parties involved in the incident have been accounted for," police said in a statement Sunday night. "We have no indication there is further threat to the public."

Officials said a suspect was in custody as officers continued collecting and processing evidence. Police said they expect to release additional information on Monday.
