Wednesday, April 15 at 7:00 pm

The Yorkville Public Library is celebrating National Library Week (April 12-18) and National Poetry Month in April with a program entitled: “The Essential Edgar Allan Poe” presented by William Pack on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:00 pm. This program is suitable for adults and teens and is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American author, poet, editor, literary critic, and considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story. He is widely acknowledged as the inventor of the modern detective story. His works have been in print since 1827 and include such literary classics as “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Raven,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He made his living as America’s first great literary critic and theoretician. Poe’s reputation today rests primarily on his tales of terror as well as on his haunting lyric poetry.

Join the Yorkville Public Library for an exciting look into the life of Edgar Allan Poe as told by William Pack. William will exhume the tragic life and remarkable writings of this American genius with dramatic storytelling, readings, and a couple of William’s signature performances that bring Poe’s disturbing world to life.
