Newark's Fourth of July Activities Announced

Newark Announces Fourth of July Activities

Continuing in Newark’s fashion, Newark will once again have many activities to celebrate the 4th of July:

Friday, June 29 starting at 7:00 pm we will once again have the Fire Department Water Fights, come root for your favorite town.  Concessions will be available during the
event.

Saturday, June 30 we have our annual Beer Garden and Street Dance.   Come Dance the night away as we
honor Veterans throughout Kendall County with a USO Dance theme and Talk of the Town Big Band will be playing starting at 8:00 pm.  Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms or insignia indicating that they are Veterans. 

The American Legion will be handing out information for the Kendall County Assistance Committee and other information regarding the American Legion.  The Legion will also be sponsoring The Iraq freedom moving wall which will be coming during the evening.  This wall has a picture of every victim that died in the Iraq War. 
When it arrives it will be at the end of the street across from the Fern Dell Museum.

Sunday, July 1 our annual community picnic will be held at
Townhouse Park starting at 1:00 – Please bring a dish to pass and Bingo will be played after the meal.  Hamburgers and Hot Dogs along with a drink will be available.

The Newark Scouts will perform a Flag Retirement Ceremony at 7:30 pm in Townhouse Park behind the Concession Stand.  If you have a flag that needs to be retired please contact Derek Simmons at  815-695-5927.

Wednesday,
July 4 will start the day off with the Newark Scouts Raising the Flags in the park downtown across from the fire department along with Duane Christian singing the National Anthem.

The Parade will start at 10:00 am

After the parade there will be many vendors, Kid’s Games, Kids’ Crafts and Book Sale, Antique Tractor Show, and the Gazebo Dedication by the Larsen Family,

Silent Auction and Raffle – some items to be auctioned off are one of The Boys Basketball Town Signs, various Street Signs that have been retired, White Sox Tickets, and a host of certificates for various vendors in town for discounted services, gift baskets, etc.

The Fern Dell Museum, Blacksmith Shop and Fern Dell School will also be open.

The button drawing will be held at 1:15 pm at the Fire House.
