Yorkville Food Scrap Pickup Underway

YORKVILLE, IL — The city's solid waste and recycling collection services provided by Advanced Disposal will include food scrap pickup starting July 1. Food scraps can be mixed in with yard waste and will be collected in the same truck as regular yard waste.

Acceptable items including fruits and vegetables, including unpainted holiday pumpkins; dairy and eggs including egg shells (no liquids); bread, grains, pasta and cereal; and coffee grounds, filters and tea bags. Items that are not accepted include meat, poultry or seafood; bones or shells; fats, grease or oil; liquids; packaging, paper plates or service ware; plastic, Styrofoam, glass, metal, diapers or pet waste.

"Residents are advised to use care when mixing items that may cause excessive weight or moisture issues in Kraft bags as all weight limits still apply," the City of Yorkville said. "Bags that are broken, contain unacceptable materials or are otherwise compromised, will not be collected."

The program will last through Nov. 30.
