Kendall County Deputies Honored for Heroic Actions

Three deputies with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office were honored at the Kendall County board meeting Tuesday evening for their heroic actions while on duty.

Deputies Jason Larsen, Zach Tongate, and Tyler Johnson each received awards from Sheriff Dwight A. Baird, the Kendall County Board and The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

On Oct. 12, 2015, Larsen, an eight-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, responded to a call of a man believed to be overdosing on heroin. Larsen administered Narcan to the man, who was taken to the hospital by paramedics, the release said.

On Dec. 29, 2015, Tongate, a two-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, responded to a call of a man who fainted and was barely breathing. Deputy Tongate utilized an AED machine and performed CPR on the man until paramedics arrived. The man survived, according to the release.

On Jan. 1, Johnson, a two-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, responded to a call of a vehicle that had crashed into a pond. Deputy Johnson entered the frigid water and was able to rescue the woman trapped in the vehicle.

Larsen and Tongate each received the Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award and Johnson received the Sheriff’s Office Medal of Valor. All three received a certificate and plaque of recognition from the Kendall County Board and the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for their actions.
