Kendall County Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale May 21

The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

YORKVILLE, IL – It’s that time of year! Come pick out prime plants and pick up helpful hints, for your garden at the annual Kendall County Master Gardener Plant Sale on Saturday, May 21 at the University of Illinois Extension office in Yorkville.

The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will include native, perennial, herb and vegetable plants. The Master Gardener volunteers started more than 400 tomato seeds of 18 different varieties, and more than 300 pepper seeds of 13 varieties.

During the morning hours, Master Gardeners will provide free presentations and demonstrations on popular home gardening topics:

  • “Containers with Pizzazz,” offered by Kandy Keeling at 9:30 a.m., will demonstrate how to put together a beautiful combination planter for your deck, porch or patio. A drawing will be held at the end of the sale and one lucky person will win this planter to take home.
  • Gloria Meyer and Pete Krol start at 10 a.m. with “BodySmart Gardening”. Learn how to protect yourself from the elements and injury as you do all the work necessary for a successful garden. This program will provide useful tips on saving your back, neck, knees, skin and more.
  • At 10:30 a.m., Pat Hambly will present “Propagating Cacti and Succulents.” She will share how to care for cacti and demonstrate proper propagating techniques for indoor and outdoor cacti and succulent plantings. She also will discuss container ideas and techniques for displaying these plants.

The event will be at the University of Illinois Extension office, 7775B Illinois Route 47 in Yorkville, just one mile south of Route 71. In case of rain, the sale will be held Sunday, May 22.

Kendall County Master Gardeners also answer homeowner gardening and lawn care questions through the Help Desk, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Extension office or by calling 630-553-5823 or emailing uiemg-kendall@illinois.edu.
