Kendall County Sergeant Pleads Guilty To Driving 120 MPH
Patrol Sergeant Mark Bunting was pulled over by Yorkville Police in mid-January for driving 120 mph in a 45 mph zone.

YORKVILLE, IL -- A Kendall County Sheriff's Sergeant has pleaded guilty to charges that he drove 120 mph in a 45 mph zone. Sergeant Mark Bunting, a 23-year veteran of the force, was arrested by Yorkville police in mid-January for misdemeanor excessive speeding while he was off duty.
Bunting was fined $500 and sentenced to 100 hours of community service and 12 months of conditional discharge.
After the arrest, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office conducted an internal investigation into the incident. The investigation, conducted while Bunting was on administrative assignment, led authorities to determine that Bunting "violated certain policies and certain sections of the code of conduct of the Sheriff’s Office."

As a result, Bunting was given a one-week suspension without pay.
In a news release, Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird said he will not "judge [Bunting's] professional career by this one act, but by the totality of his accomplishments and service over his entire career."

He added that Bunting has "shown deep remorse for his conduct and [he] realizes the impact it has had to the community."

"[T]hese consequences are above and beyond what most citizens’ would have received in a similar situation," Baird said, adding that "the associated loss of wages and professional embarrassment have an impact that neither the court nor I can impose."
