Local Robotics Teams Remember Yorkville High School Student Billy Mahaney

"Our robotics organization is more than a club, they are family, when one hurts we all hurt," said YHS teacher and Robotics Team Advisor, Dan Cornwall.

The robotics community has come together in a show support for Billy Mahaney's family and to each other.

Billy Mahaney, a junior at Yorkville High School, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 8.

He was an involved member of Yorkville robotics team, amongst other groups.

On Monday, April 15, more than 120 students and advisors from local high school Robotics Teams attended Billy's wake.

Robotics team members and advisors from Yorkville, Plainfield, Geneva, IMSA and Oswego attended the memorial.

Members of the Yorkville, IMSA and Oswego teams met privately with Billy's father, Bill Mahaney III, and presented him with Billy's YHS Robotics team shirt, which had been signed and framed.

Additionally, IMSA gave him one of their team shirts adorned with buttons from each of the 53 teams that was at Midwest regionals.

In addition to the outpouring of support at Monday’s wake, one of the teams going to nationals at the end of this month has requested a sticker picture of Billy that will be displayed on their robot during competition.
