Local Teens Injured Detasseling Corn
Two Sterling teens killed, eight others injured in farming accident Monday, according to news reports.
More than 12,500 people were following a memorial Facebook page for two Sterling girls who were electrocuted Monday in a farming accident that also injured two Yorkville girls.
Neighbors and best friends Hannah Kendall and Jade Garza, both 14, were detasseling corn in Tampico, Ill., when they connected with high voltage from an irrigation system, the Wall Street Journal reported. Area farmers indicated lightning struck the irrigation system over the weekend, although authorities haven't revealed specifics from their on-going investigation, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Eight others, including Delanie Knapp, 14, and Bailey Knapp, 15, both of Yorkville, were injured, according to the Sterling-based Sauk Valley News. Garza was Delanie and Bailey Knapp’s step-sister.
