Photos: Collecting Dresses for Century of Brides

By April 22, Chapel on the Green NFP members will have the loaned dresses organized into complete outfit for models and into displays.

On Sunday, though, area residents dropped wedding gowns, some dating back decades, off at the historic church off Yorkville's . Volunteers measured the dresses to plan for who might fit into them, packaged them into boxes and onto hangers - and heard a few family stories as they worked.

Organizers are planning a fasion show, display and tea focusing on wedding styles throughout 20th century. Their goal is to present at least one dress from each decade.

Anne Sears, of Plano, brought over her mother's and her grandmother's dresses, which had been packed away in the closet with other older garmets. Her grandma, Anna Papenfuss, married Fritz Lehman on Sept. 15, 1915, according to notes on a wedding photograph she brought.

Her mother, Helen Sears, married in 1950.

At another table, Carol Vaughn, of Yorkville, brought her mother's velvet, dark blue wedding dress, as well as the silver heels Vieda Scheit wore when she married in October 1937.
