Run The Whispers 5K Aimed At Raising Suicide Prevention Awareness

First Annual "Run The Whispers Charity 5K" will be followed by a party as part of the 8-hour event.

YORKVILLE, IL — September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and the Whispering Meadows community invites everyone to take part in the first annual "Run the Whispers" 5K on Saturday, Sept. 29 to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. According to event organizers, the run is also taking place to thank Joel Frieders who worked to improve the roads inside the Whispering Meadows subdivision.

The event kicks off at 12 p.m. with registration at Whispering Meadows Clubhouse, 525 Faxon Road, where the 5K race starts at 2 p.m. The race will also end at the clubhouse and will be followed by a community block party which runs until 8 p.m. and will include fun things for adults and kids.

According to the event website, there are several entry options for those looking to participate:

  • $25: Includes individual race entry fee and t-shirt.
  • $60: Includes family race entry with up to four t-shirts.
  • $15: Individual entry fee, no t-shirt.
  • $15: T-shirt purchase, (price per shirt)

All proceeds from the race and after party will be donated to Suicide Prevention Services of America and Hope For The Day charities.

Bikes and scooters are allowed for children to use during the race, and friendly dogs are also welcome, but event organizers request that you make sure to clean up any doggy accidents even if it's impacting your race time.

There will be several awards handed out for adult best race time, kids best race time, best dog time, best costume, most sweaty, most garbage collected during 5K, most amount of clothes and/or unnecessary sports accessories, and best race time for kids on bike or scooter.

The race - sponsored by Heartland Beverage and Southbank Original BBQ - continues rain or shine, but will possibly be rescheduled in the event of a cancellation due to severe weather
