Yorkville Resident Wants to Be Able to Drive Golf Carts on Streets

Yorkville Police Chief Rich Hart said he's concerned about safety issues.

While the Yorkville Police Department has asked residents not to drive golf carts on the streets, a Yorkville resident wants that to be changed.

Jenny Lunn said at Yorkville’s City Council meeting that she and neighbors have been using the golf carts to get around their Countryside subdivision.

“A lot of us jump in our golf carts after dinner, and go to the neighbor’s house,” Lunn told the Chicago Tribune.

Lunn also said driving the golf carts has brought the neighborhood together as residents will ride to easement areas to watch movies while sitting in their carts.

Yorkville Police Chief Rich Hart said that complaints have been received about the golf carts, and while he understands their use and that at first glance there appears to be no issue with them, he’s concerned about safety.

“It’s a great thing, but in a community like ours with busy roads, for the safety aspect, I just can’t condone it,” Hart told the Chicago Tribune. “The first time we have someone killed on a golf cart on Kennedy Road or McHugh Road or Fox Road, it’s gonna be, ‘Oh my God, how could this happen?’ That’s my fear.”
