1. Monroe County and DAR to honor Revolutionary patriots with Patriot Plaque Dedication Ceremony (wbiw.com) — Downtown Bloomington will host a public Patriot Plaque Dedication Ceremony at the Monroe County Courthouse on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. Organized by Monroe County and the Bloomington DAR chapter, the event honors Revolutionary War patriots buried locally and flows into the Monroe County History Center’s “History On The Block” community celebration.

2. Bloomington mayor vetoes plan to limit cars on Kirkwood Avenue (wishtv.com) — Bloomington’s mayor has vetoed a plan to close five blocks of Kirkwood Avenue to cars for much of each year, sending the proposal back to city council for a possible override vote on July 22. City officials will instead pursue a broader, data-driven study of the corridor, weighing safety, accessibility, business impacts, and long-term funding for any future changes.

A teen's remission highlights new deceased donor stem cell option (heraldtimesonline.com) — A Bloomington teen, 14-year-old Noah Britt, is in remission after Riley Children’s Health used stem cells from a deceased donor when no living donor match was available. His case, part of the HOPE Program’s PRESERVE I trial, shows how banked deceased-donor stem cells could speed lifesaving transplants for children facing aggressive blood cancers.
