Two Bloomington men wounded in early-morning shooting on West Festive Drive (bloomingtonian.com) — Two Bloomington men were wounded in a targeted early-morning shooting Friday while sitting in a vehicle on West Festive Drive, just west of I-69, and deputies say there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating and asks anyone with information or security-camera footage from the West Festive Drive and South Yonkers Street area to contact Detective Rushing.
   

2. Update: Some Bloomington supportive apartments stay closed to new tenants after failed inspections (bsquarebulletin.com) — Bloomington’s Crawford Apartments on South Henderson remain partly closed to new tenants after failing city inspections, leaving 32 supportive housing units unavailable despite a growing homelessness crisis. City officials say permits won’t be renewed until building-wide issues are fixed, even in vacant units without violations, and emphasize urgency as new state camping restrictions and recent camp clearances strain local housing options.
   

3. IU grad student recipient of National Science Foundation fellowship in materials theory, wins teaching award (iu.edu) — An IU Bloomington chemistry Ph.D. student has earned a prestigious National Science Foundation fellowship in materials theory and a top departmental teaching award early in her graduate career. Her work on quantum materials and creative 3D-printed teaching tools will be showcased at October’s Science Fest on the IU Bloomington campus and at outreach events across southern and central Indiana.
   

4. Indiana University orders 2 fraternities to cease activities amid hazing investigations (wthr.com) — Indiana University in Bloomington has ordered the Delta Tau Delta and Theta Chi fraternities to halt all activities while hazing allegations are investigated. The cease-and-desist directives bar the chapters from hosting or attending any social, recruitment, education, or service events, and IU says the orders are meant to prevent potential harm while inquiries continue.
   

5. No. 2 Hoosiers Hush Huskies (iuhoosiers.com) — Indiana men’s soccer stayed unbeaten in Bloomington with a 1-0 shutout of No. 16 Washington at Bill Armstrong Stadium, powered by an early Easton Bogard header and eight saves from goalkeeper Michal Mroz. The Hoosiers, now dominant defensively with five clean sheets, return home again next Friday to host Penn State after a midweek trip to Wisconsin.
