Carmel Is America's Best City To Live In

How 24/7 Wall St. chose this Indiana city as the top choice in its 'America's 50 best cities to live in' list.

CARMEL, IN — Carmel, Indiana is America's best city to live in, according to 24/7 Wall St. According to the financial news and opinion guru's website, the company measured more than three dozen socioeconomic aspects to see which U.S. cities are the 50 best places to live. Not that we had much doubt at all, but thanks to lots of analyzing from 24/7 Wall St., Carmel once again proves to be the best.

I say "once again" because Carmel received the same ranking in April from Niche, and a number of other top rankings recently through other sources.

According to 24/7 Wall St.'s special report on the country's best places to live, the company says Carmel is one of the safest places in the country, reporting there are 386 violent crimes and 2,451 property crimes reported for every 100,000 residents across the country, but just 28 violent crimes and 887 property crimes per 100,000 people in Carmel.

In addition, 24.7 Wall Street found nearly 70% of adults in Carmel has a bachelor's degree, and cost of living is "relatively inexpensive" which allows reportedly high incomes ($113,194 per household per year) of residents to go farther.

24/7 Wall St. considered "roughly" 590 cities in the U.S. Census Bureau with a population of more than 65,000 people in 2016. The top performing city in each county was considered when it came to ranking, and data was collected in these nine categories: Crime, demography, economy, education, environment, health, housing, infrastructure, and leisure. From there, certain measures played a role in the city's category score. Here are Carmel's winning stats:

  • Population: 90,533
  • Median home value: $315,200 (top 25%)
  • Poverty rate: 3.9% (bottom 10%)
  • Pct. with at least a bachelor’s degree: 69.7% (top 10%)

The site's number two best place to live in America is Arvada, Colorado, followed by Centennial, Colorado at number three.
