Prosecutors Seek Opposition to Marijuana Legalization In Indiana
State prosecutors send letter siting reasons why officials should oppose legalization of marijuana in Indiana: Report

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Officials from the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council say attorneys asked the Indiana Commission to Combat Drug Abuse to oppose the legalization of marijuana in the state. According to a release, the request to oppose the drug in any form, for any purpose came from as a letter from the nonprofit corporation the Association of Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys, Inc. This letter reportedly cited several reasons why marijuana legalization is bad for Indiana.
According to a release, Executive Secretary David Powell cited the following reasons marijuana legalization is bad for Indiana on behalf of the association:
- Marijuana use increases the risk of opioid abuse and other controlled substances and has been associated with reduced odds of achieving abstinence from alcohol, cocaine or polysubstance use.
- Marijuana is not medicine and information purporting that marijuana is medicine is based on half-truths and anecdotal evidence.
- Marijuana legalization in other states has been a detriment; specifically to workforce availability, impaired driving and in increased use among youth.
