West Nile virus found in sample group of mosquitos in Vanderburgh (courierpress.com) — West Nile virus has been detected in a mosquito sample from Vanderburgh County, and Evansville health officials say it's the county's first positive test this year. The health department isn't naming the trap location so all residents stay vigilant, and they're reminding people the virus can range from mild fever to serious, potentially fatal neurological illness. 
2. Displaced left turn causes traffic trouble in Evansville (tristatehomepage.com) — Drivers in Evansville now have a new displaced left turn on the Lloyd Expressway at Cross Pointe and Eagle Crest, activated just weeks after a serious multi-vehicle crash there. Officials say the design should reduce dangerous T-bone collisions but warn residents to expect backups at first and urge patience as signals are adjusted and out-of-town drivers learn the new pattern.
3. Deacon Jack Tuinier 'always had a call to ministry' (evdiomessage.org) — A new permanent deacon ordained at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville is sharing how a lifelong call to ministry led him from discerning priesthood to the diaconate. Now serving at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Dale, he says his diverse faith background and years in youth ministry help him serve the wider Church of Evansville through preaching, sacraments, and everyday service.
4. How to identify when someone is in crisis, and the steps that can save a life (14news.com) — In Evansville, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office is urging residents to watch for warning signs of suicide in loved ones, like sudden hopelessness, reckless behavior, or big mood swings. Deputies stress trusting your instincts, calling 911 in emergencies, and using 988 or the local 812-422-1100 crisis line for immediate help in our community.
5. 2026 Easterseals Style Show Coming to Evansville October 1 (newstalk1280.com) — A major fall fundraiser is headed to Evansville as the 2026 Easterseals Style Show takes over Warehouse 410 on October 1 with a Sip & Shop at 4 p.m. and runway show at 5. Local models, boutiques, and restaurants will help raise money so Easterseals can continue providing therapy, education, and support to thousands of Tri-State residents with disabilities.
