Fishers Buys 70 Acres On Geist Reservoir For Public Park

City of Fishers officials have plans to build park, beach and more on the newly purchased Geist land.

FISHERS, IN β€” Just months after the City of Fishers announced hopes to purchase land along Geist Reservoir, officials say the city has bought 70 acres along the water to build a public park. WRTV reported Mayor Scott Fadness said the city purchased the land near 111th Street and Olio Road which will let people enjoy the lake through public access even if they don't live in Geist.

According to the news report, the proposed public area would sit on the reservoir's far east side, and Fadness has several ideas for it, including a beach, park, boardwalk and more.

The city has not yet decided what they will charge to get into the park or if it will be open to non-Fishers residents.

The city of Fishers was looking to pay $15.7 million for the land, a price set by a Hamilton County judge for what Fishers would pay for the 69-acre site, which is the last undeveloped patch of land along the lake, surrounded in many parts by expensive homes.
