Fishers Ikea Customer Facing Charges After Gun Incident

Court records indicate Francis T. Wright is facing felony weapon charges following June 25 incident at Fishers Location.

FISHERS, IN — A gun owner accused of dropping his weapon Monday at Ikea where it was discovered and fired by a young boy, is facing charges in Hamilton County. According to online court records, Francis T. Wright, 62, of Camby, was charged Wednesday at Hamilton Superior Court with one count of criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a class 6 felony.

The incident took place around 2 p.m. at the Ikea Fishers location at 11400 Ikea Way on June 25 when Wright sat down on a couch where his gun fell out of his pants and got caught in the furniture.

Sgt. Tom Weger with Fisher Police Department said the man got up to walk around the store without noticing his gun was gone, when the child sat down, found the firearm and pulled the trigger, WISH reported.

Officials say no one was injured, however evidence and information from witnesses will be sent to the Hamilton County prosecutor as the investigation continues.

Wright's first hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m., July 11, though court records indicate he's not being kept at the Hamilton County jail.
