Fishers Lawyer Pleads Guilty To Several Counts Of Fraud

Authorities say Joel Paul filed more than 250 false visa applications, and collected nearly $750,000 in fraudulent fees: Report

FISHERS, IN — The Associated Press reports a Fishers lawyer has pleaded guilty for what authorities describe as filing more than 250 false visa applications, and collecting nearly $750,000 in fraudulent fees. The news outlet says the Justice Department announced Thursday the plea by 45-year-old Joel Paul to charges including mail fraud, immigration document fraud and aggravated identity theft related to the fraudulent U visa applications. AP says the U visa is a type of visa granted to crime victims, and the case's plea document alleges Paul admitted to submitting the applications without his clients' knowledge from 2013 to 2017.

AP says sentencing is expected to take place early 2018.
