📰 News we're reading

• Mt. Vernon seniors represent Indiana in national AI conference (greenfieldreporter.com) — Fortville's Mt. Vernon High School is being recognized nationally, as two seniors were chosen to represent all of Indiana at a three-day America's Youth AI Festival in Boston. With Superintendent Jack Parker, they helped draft a student-driven AI policy framework for K-12 schools while practicing debate, collaboration and public speaking skills they say will shape how technology is used in classrooms.

• Vernon Township library anticipates $786K budget for 2027, down $100,000 from 2026 total (greenfieldreporter.com) — Vernon Township Public Library, which serves Fortville residents through local income tax funding, is planning a 2027 budget of about $786,000, down roughly $100,000 from this year. Because the increase is under 3%, Fortville's town council won't need to vote, even as the library prepares to operate a new McCordsville branch and absorbs added costs without extra state-approved expansion funds.

• High school volleyball weekly wrap: Injuries abound, Yorktown communication, Scecina, more (indystar.com) — Fortville volleyball fans saw a tough week for Mt. Vernon, with the Marauders swept by Yorktown and dealing with key injuries to senior leaders and their starting setter. Even so, the team's early-season success, emerging standout Vizma Erkamnis, and strong competition across central Indiana suggest there's still time to regroup before crucial sectional play.
