Century-old City Methodist Church in Gary slated for demolition (fox32chicago.com) — City officials are moving ahead with demolishing Gary's century‑old City Methodist Church, a long‑vacant Gothic landmark that has become a serious safety hazard. After years of unsuccessful preservation efforts, a contractor has been chosen for the more‑than‑$5‑million project, closing a chapter that reflects both Gary's steel‑era boom and its complicated racial history.
3. Federal Loan Advances NW Indiana Commuter Rail Track Project (enr.com) — A new $27.5 million federal loan is helping advance double‑tracking on the South Shore Line between Gary and Michigan City, promising faster, more reliable trips to Chicago. For Gary residents, the project includes new platforms, expanded parking, and a new building at Miller Station, along with safety upgrades like rebuilt crossings and new bridges along the corridor.
4.
