3. Federal Loan Advances NW Indiana Commuter Rail Track Project (enr.com) — A new $27.5 million federal loan is helping advance double‑tracking on the South Shore Line between Gary and Michigan City, promising faster, more reliable trips to Chicago. For Gary residents, the project includes new platforms, expanded parking, and a new building at Miller Station, along with safety upgrades like rebuilt crossings and new bridges along the corridor.
   

4. 'We took care of one another': Gary community unified in aftermath of storm (finalcall.com) — Gary residents are reflecting on how they fed neighbors, checked on elders, and turned churches into resilience hubs after August's devastating derecho left much of the city without power for up to two weeks. Now, community leaders are demanding answers from NIPSCO and state regulators about vegetation management, grid investments, and how to better protect Gary before the next major storm.
