• Gary Council targets NIPSCO rate hike rules (chicagocrusader.com) — Gary residents should know their Common Council has formally challenged how NIPSCO recovers infrastructure costs, urging Indiana lawmakers to change state utility-rate laws after August's massive storm outages. While it doesn't directly cut bills yet, the resolution and a separate state investigation could influence future reliability, vegetation management, and what Gary customers ultimately pay for power.
   

• Four people arrested after two-state pursuit late Friday (chicagotribune.com) — Late Friday night, a police pursuit that began in Chicago passed through Gary, where Lake County deputies briefly stopped the fleeing car at Burr Street and I-80 before it sped off again. The chase ended in Calumet City, Illinois, with four people arrested, including a Merrillville man wanted on several felony warrants and a handgun recovered nearby.
