Mayor Melton issues Gary storm recovery update (nwitimes.com) — Gary's mayor is outlining how the city is tackling power outages, debris cleanup, and storm damage from the August 11 storm, with NIPSCO aiming for full restoration by Friday night. City crews, first responders, and community partners are coordinating recovery, and residents can find updated resources and neighborhood information on the city's storm recovery webpage.
   

2. The voracious, and thoughtful, musical appetite of the PUBLIQuartet (lpm.org subscription) — A new review spotlights producer Jlin, the acclaimed electronic innovator from Gary, whose track "Baobab" anchors PUBLIQuartet's adventurous album Rhythm Nation. The piece explains how Jlin samples the quartet to build a percussive soundscape they improvise over live, while also surveying the album's global influences, from West African suites to jazz and Janet Jackson-inspired interludes.
   

3. FEMA aid available for emergency crews as power restoration continues from Indiana storms (wndu.com) — Federal emergency aid is being opened up to help Indiana communities recover from recent severe storms, while NIPSCO continues restoring power across the region. Crews also reported shots fired at a NIPSCO vehicle in Gary, though no one was hurt, underscoring ongoing safety concerns during restoration work.
   

4. Helicopter sent for flood response damaged (westernwaynenews.com) — An Indiana National Guard Blackhawk helicopter from the medevac unit based in Gary was damaged during ground taxi operations at Connersville's Mettel Field, though everyone on board was uninjured. Officials are assessing the aircraft and reviewing the mishap as part of standard aviation safety procedures, after the helicopter had been positioned for potential flood response work in east central Indiana.
