Iditarod Veteran Will Visit Hammond Library

Karen Land will bring her dog and race equipment to talk about the famous Alaskan dog sled competition.

HAMMOND, IN -- An Indiana native who competed in the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in Alaska three times will share her experiences with anyone interested at the Hammond Public Library later this month. Karen Land, now a resident of Montana, will bring her dog, Noggin and share stories from her appearances at the early March race that encompasses more than 1,000 miles and often takes place during treacherous weather conditions.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1 and everyone is welcome, according to a news release from the Hammond Public Library. In addition to Noggin, Land will bring and describe equipment that is used in the race.

Land’s program kicks off Youth Winter Reading at the library, which will run from February 1-28.
