Local attorneys living in Lake County can apply online by Oct. 8, before a nominating commission interviews candidates and forwards finalists for the governor to choose Hammond's next judges.
   

• Barefoot man uses axe to attack 2 semis, leads police on I-80 chase in Hammond (wishtv.com) — A New Jersey driver was arrested after allegedly attacking two semitrailers with an axe and leading police on a high‑speed chase along I‑80 in Hammond Friday afternoon. Troopers say the barefoot man repeatedly brake‑checked trucks, damaged two rigs with an axe, then fled until Lake County deputies boxed in his car and took him to jail on preliminary resisting and criminal mischief charges.
