Crayola and Walmart Surprised Eastridge Elementary Teachers With a Transformed Lounge

Eastridge Elementary was one of 24 schools nationwide selected for a Walmart and Crayola makeover ahead of the new school year.

Teachers at Eastridge Elementary School in Indianapolis returned to a colorful surprise Monday morning when Crayola and Walmart unveiled a newly transformed teachers' lounge, part of a nationwide effort to celebrate educators' dedication to their students.

Eastridge was selected as one of just 24 schools nationwide for the makeover, which included a $3,000 Walmart.com eGift card from Crayola to furnish and decorate the space, $1,000 worth of Crayola art supplies, a $1,000 Walmart gift card, and a $2,500 Walmart grant to further support the school community. Associates from the East Washington Street Walmart Supercenter volunteered their time to refresh the lounge, turning it into a space where teachers could recharge and feel appreciated.

"We had a very blank space, and now it's just this cozy area where our teachers can come during their prep, during their lunch hour, and just take a break and refresh," said Tabitha Jackson, Family Engagement Liaison at Eastridge Elementary School. "When you have happy teachers, you'll have happy students, and we really want our teachers to feel the love. We're so grateful for the partnership between Crayola and Walmart, and for this new space here at Eastridge."
